Like many municipalities around the U.S., Miami-Dade is beefing up its counterterrorism capabilities. Its latest strategy focuses on deploying well-equipped special police units around the city. Armed with rifles, riot helmets, and gas masks, the officers will patrol a number of high-profile sites that stick out as potential targets (e.g. Metrorail stations and public buildings).
