Growing global threats require new strategic focus

The U.S. Air Force must shift its focus from the Middle East to the rest of the world in order to counter growing threats, says Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Goldfein. Instead of dedicating 80 percent of its resources to the Middle East, as it currently does, the Air Force should spend more time preparing to counter “near-peer” adversaries such as Russia. According to the general, such a realignment would reflect shifting geopolitical realities.
