Spending on IoT security to hit $1.5 bn in 2018, an increase of 28% from last year: Report

The worldwide spending on Internet of Things (IoT) security will reach $1.5 billion in 2018 — a 28 percent increase from the 2017 spending of $1.2 billion, according to a Gartner forecast on 21 March. Global spending on IoT security is expected to reach $3.1 billion in 2021, the report, titled “Forecast: IoT Security, Worldwide, 2018”, said.

IoT-based attacks are already a reality and a recent Gartner survey found that nearly 20 percent of organisations observed at least one IoT-based attack in the past three years.
